About the Luthier:
My name is Seth Miller. I am 32 years old, and I live in Sioux Falls, SD, with my beautiful wife, Jessie, our daughter Laila, son Andrew, and dogs Snoopy and Tigger. I have been a professional luthier for about 10 years, but a musician and woodworker for as far back as early teens. I started my career out doing small repairs and setups for friends in high school and in college. I worked as a carpenter with my father for many summers and learned the art of woodworking. I became real interested in guitarmaking my freshman year in college. From there, I knew what I wanted to dedicate my life doing. I quit college and worked for a year, then attended Luthiers International in Atlanta GA, to learn guitarmaking and to get into the guitar repair game. After recieving my luthiery certificate, I went on the work at Mars Music in Cherry Hill, NJ for a brief time as the guitar repairman, then at Mars Music in Omaha, NE as their repairman. I was there for about a year until they went bankrupt and closed down.
I moved back to South Dakota in 2001 to marry my girl and to continue in my guitarmaking career. I got really into the classical guitar, and decided to dedicate all my efforts into creating the most beautiful guitars in the world. I took a full-time job at a small custom cabinet shop to strengthen my skills in woodworking and also they let me use some of the power tools that I don't have and can't afford. In early 2007 I took a simliar job, but it is a lot more flexible so it's more condusive to guitar building and my family.
I also have been active in doing guitar repair work on the side, when I'm not too busy building guitars. I became a member of The Guild of American Luthiers in 2005. I also stay busy doing little woodworking projects here and there for family. I put some pictures of some toyboxes I've made and I am taking orders for those too. Hopefully soon enough I'll be able to build and fix guitars full-time at my shop at home, and have more time with the family. That's me in somewhat of a nutshell but I hope this helps in finding out a little about me and where I'm coming from.
Seth Miller
